HiT ODBC/DB2
HiT ODBC/DB2 Developer Edition
HiT ODBC/DB2 (for IBM DB2 for z/OS and OS/390, VSE/VM, UNIX, Linux, and Windows
platforms) is Windows SQL client middleware for DB2 data access of custom applications and third
party products. HiT ODBC/DB2 accepts standard Windows Open Database Connectivity
(ODBC) function calls, translates these into native DB2 SQL for high-performance, and communicates with
the DB2 server to access, retrieve, and update DB2 data. All communication with the DB2 server can also
be optionally authenticated and encrypted via SSL v3.0 support. Leveraging the IBM Distributed Relational
Database Architecture (DRDA) protocol standard, HiT ODBC/DB2 uses native IBM server programs and does not
require any additional DB2 server software. HiT ODBC/DB2 supports all Windows client platforms including
Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 98/95, Windows NT Workstation.
HiT ODBC/DB2 is extremely reliable and has evolved a robust feature set.
Multi-threading support and re-entrancy support ensure the scalability and high performance for client
applications.
HiT ODBC/DB2 supports full SQL functionality for maximum application performance
including stored procedures, multiple result sets, static SQL/packages, multi-threading support. ODBC level
3 compliance offers developers powerful new data access techniques, catalog functionality, access to
environmental attributes, extended data types, SQL batch support, error reporting, and ANSI SQL-92
alignment.
HiT ODBC/DB2 can be used with all major
application development tools that support the Windows ODBC standard.
Additionally, hundreds of third-party software products can use
HiT ODBC/DB2 for business intelligence, decision support, query/reporting,
data replication, and data mining. Support is also included for
the most common DB2 server single and double character sets. Web/application
server developers should review HiT
ODBC Server/DB2 Developer Edition for these environments.

A Developer Edition of HiT ODBC/DB2 is available
and includes a C# toolkit with sample project/forms demonstrating working source code that
connects, queries, retrieves, and updates DB2 data using ADO.NET and ODBCDirect.
HiT ODBC/Toolbox, included in the HiT ODBC/DB2 Developer Edition, includes tracing and
debug tools that allow developers to examine and modify SQL execution.
For deployment support, silent installation support allows the middleware to
be installed by calling developer setup applications. Also, included diagnostic utilities give network
administrators tools to resolve configuration issues.
HiT ODBC/DB2 includes extensive on-line documentation covering ODBC data source
configurations, ODBC functions, SQL grammer, using DB2 stored procedures, static SQL/package use, tracing,
debugging, and diagnostics.
HiT ODBC/DB2 supports the following database standards: ODBC core and level 3
conformance, ANSI SQL-92, X/Open and ISO CLI catalog function column name standards, DRDA level 4, ADO and ODBCDirect.
HiT ODBC/DB2 supports TCP/IP and APPC connectivity transports to DB2 servers.
