HiT ODBC Server/400 Developer Edition
HIGH PERFORMANCE ODBC DRIVER FOR WINDOWS SERVERS
HiT ODBC Server/400 (ODBC for IBM i, iSeries or AS/400) provides Windows SQL middleware access
to IBM DB2 servers running on IBM i, iSeries and AS/400 platforms. HiT ODBC Server/400
accepts standard Windows Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) function calls, translates these into
native DB2 SQL for high-performance, and communicates with the DB2 server to access, retrieve, and
update DB2 data. All communication with the IBM i can also be optionally encrypted and authenticated
via SSL v3.0 support. Leveraging the IBM Optimized Database Server protocol standard, HiT ODBC Server/400
uses native IBM OS server programs and does not require any additional software running on the IBM i platform.
The HiT Server Manager allows a remote developer or administrator to see ODBC connections by DB2 server,
calling application and user ID, start time of connections, status of connection, traffic volume over
connection, and memory utilization. DB2 server connections can be pooled and reused to optimize performance.
The HiT Server Manager can define the time-out and dropping of these pooled connections. Developer and
administrators can now monitor the DB2 middleware access layer to ensure maximum Windows server application
performance.
HiT ODBC Server/400 supports full SQL functionality (via ODBC level 3.5 conformance) for maximum
application performance including stored procedures, multiple result sets, and static SQL/packages.
Multi-threading support ensures high performance for client applications. Its unique dbXpress
performance feature also significantly speeds applications. ODBC level 3.5 compliance offers developers
powerful new data access techniques, catalog functionality, access to environmental attributes, extended
data types, SQL batch support, error reporting, and ANSI SQL-92 alignment.

HiT ODBC Server/400 is particularly useful for developers working with custom applications. HiT Toolbox,
included with the run-time middleware, is a sophisticated ODBC diagnostic tool and gives network
administrators specific tools to resolve network issues. For developers, tracing and debug tools allow
examination and modification of SQL passed to the DB2/400 server.
A Developer Edition of the product drastically cuts web application development time by providing developers with a C# Toolkit. Using ADO.NET, C# toolkit samples show you how to query and update IBM DB2 for i tables, control related i OS subsystems, and retrieve DB2 data for redirection to web applications. Included source code demonstrates connections using ADO.NET recordsets, executing stored procedures, retrieving table data, inserting table data, and displaying results. All samples work with any OS/400 or IBM i operating systems V3R7 or higher

HiT ODBC Server/400 can be used with all major application development tools that support the Windows ODBC
standard. Additionally, hundreds of third-party software products can use HiT ODBC/400 for business
intelligence, decision support, query/reporting, data replication, and data mining. Support is also included
for the most common single and double character sets. As sixth generation middleware, HiT ODBC Server/400
is extremely reliable and has evolved a robust feature set.
For high-security applications, data encryption
and server authentication services can be enabled using HiT
SSL Server, a secure server that uses the Secure Sockets Layer
Protocol. HiT ODBC Server/400 also supports IBM DB2 for i password expiration
security.
HiT ODBC Server/400 includes extensive on-line documentation covering ODBC data source
configurations, ODBC functions, SQL grammer, using DB2/400 stored procedures, static SQL/package use, tracing,
debugging, and diagnostics.
HiT ODBC Server/400 supports the following database standards: ODBC core and level 3
conformance, ANSI SQL-92, X/Open and ISO CLI catalog function column name standards, ADO and ADO.NET. For networks,
HiT ODBC Server/400 supports TCP/IP and APPC connectivity transports to IBM i servers.
